The Iconic show, Big Brother, will be returning to our screens in 2023 for the first time since it last aired in 2018.
In August, ITV announced the comeback of Big Brother. The announcement came in an advert during the middle of the Love Island 2022 finale.
The announcement sparked excitement among fans on social media. The iconic show last aired in 2018, known as Big Brother 19, was the nineteenth series of Big Brother and the final series to air on Channel 5.
ITV intends to stay faithful to Big Brother UK’s format and plans to not cast Love Island-style contestants or allow them to take breaks from filming, a report indicates.
A spokesman From ITV said: “A new cast of carefully selected housemates, from all walks of life, will take up residence in the world’s most famous reality TV home for up to six weeks”
“with cameras capturing their every move, and the nation following every twist and turn.”
“The iconic Big Brother house will be given a contemporary new look ready for this reimagining of the show.”
“Clever tasks, nail-biting nominations and live evictions will be back, with the public playing a crucial role, voting throughout the series and ultimately determining the winner”
Here’s what we know about the upcoming series so far.
When will Big Brother Air?
ITV2 are planning to air Big Brother between the months of May and June 2023, with a main show and spin-offs.
It is reported that ITV will revive Big Brother’s sister show: “It’s not just the main show that gets fans talking, and the spin-off has always been a favourite for viewers.”
After Little Brother, Big Mouth and BOTS, it’s reported that the chaotic show will be back with a new name.
It has been confirmed that ITV is building their own standalone Big Brother house, which will reportedly host the show and its contestants for years to come, with plans to showcase many series of the show.
A source said: “The network is clearly in this for the long haul and plans on a successful multi-series run with Big Brother, just like Channel 4 did back in the day.
“Channel bosses don’t want to be moving locations and dealing with the often complicated rules and regulations of renting out a space.
“Building their own Big Brother house will remove any risk. It’ll mean they can pretty much do whatever they want.”
ITV will start work at the new location very soon.
Who will host Big Brother?
Previous Channel 5 host, Emma Willis, has confirmed that she will not host Big Brother again.
In a statement, she said: “I loved my time on the show, and I very much said goodbye to it back then because we thought it was over. I think it’s right. It’s starting again, it’s got a new home – it should have a new host.”
According to reports, Alison Hammond is the producer’s favourite to host the reboot of Big Brother on ITV2 in 2023.
Sources have said: “Execs think she’s exactly what the show needs. She’s energetic, fun, relatable and she was on the show, so she knows it inside out.”
Channel 4 controller, Ian Katz, commented on Big Brother and its move to ITV2…
He said: “Well, look, it is a wonderful show, it gave wonder of things for Channel 4 for ten years, a decade, it did a great job for Channel 5 for seven years”
“They only just stopped it three, four years ago. I’m sure it’ll bring an audience to ITV. But I do think that some things are pressing about this moment that we are in, so many old dishes being repeated. Hands up, we do some too.”
